Hmmm......It's a little hard to fully explain why I am a fan of Apocalyptica. When I first heard them, my thoughts weren't of the current origin that they are now. I thought, "Another cover band, nothing special..." But then I heard "I Don't Care". Yes, it's silly I know. That was the first song that I heard that got me hooked...unbeknownst to myself. Of course after I had heard that song, I did as much research as I could possibly do. And I found out that this band is no ordinary band. They are doing what ordinary bands do but they are doing it extraordinarily with cellos. At this point in time I had heard almost every song they had ever made. Not only could they make me want to jump up and down and scream my head off with the rock that they created on their cellos but they could also make me calm and serene with their almost classical compositions. They went from one extreme to the other and astounded me with just how much creativity and ingenuity these 4 incredibly talented men (from Finland) had within themselves. And I asked, where in the damn hell have you all been hiding all my life?! Plus, it doesn't hurt that they are 4 of the world's most beautiful men. I often wonder if other fans are fans just b/c of that reason...
To be honest with you, I am not one who has been a fan for years. I actually just recently started listening to them but I fell in love immediately. When I heard that they were coming to Columbus for ROTR 2010, I almost died thinking "This is going to be my only chance to see them, if I don't go I'll never get to see them live". But, against all odds, I received my birthday wish and was able to see them. I was amazed at how few people knew of them. I was amazed at how many loved them instanteously as well but I shouldn't have. It was the same for me.
It still baffles me and blows my mind at how they do it. On CELLOS no less...I never realized how closed minded I was musically until I heard Apocalyptica. And now I do my best everyday to get the the word out there...that these guys are the best f***ing band you will ever hear in your entire lifetime. I'm still trying to get them to play more Apo on the only rock station Columbus Ohio has.
So I guess you could say that's it. This is why I'm a fan. I have to say, Metallica was my favorite band of ALL time but I think they're going to have to take a back seat to Apocalyptica. Sorry fellas....
Re: Apocalyptica live at Rock on The Range Festival
I loved this show for many reasons. It was my VERY first Apo show...I had JUST heard Apocalyptica's "I Don't Care" a few months before ROTR. I hadn't even heard of Apocalyptica yet.
