Finnish cello rockers Apocalyptica opened the week long celebration of Metallica's 30th anniversary on Monday at The Fillmore Theatre in San Francisco.

Besides their own set, Apocalyptica also joined Metallica on stage for a few songs. After several supports for Metallica (the first one being in Helsinki on November 18th and 19th, 1996) this was the very first time the two bands actually played together.

The concert this Monday launched a week long anniversary party which Metallica are holding exclusively for their MetClub members in San Francisco.

Eicca Toppinen says: 'What can you do when Metallica invites you to perform at their birthday party? You can only say YES!!!
We are honored and very pleased to be part of this unique event. Metallica have always been one of our greatest influences which makes this performance such a special experience for us.
Cliff, James, Lars, Kirk, Rob and Jason.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!'

Apocalyptica started their world-wide career by releasing "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos" 15 years ago. Since then the band has developed an uncomparable style of their own material. Their latest release was the band's seventh studio-album "The 7th Symphony".
Upon leaving San Francisco, Apocalyptica will continue their tour with more shows in Finland followed by an extensive Latin-American tour in January.

Apocalyptica have played over 1000 shows in their career and visited more than 50 countries around the world. To give their fans an insight into their world on tour, the band took their friend and photographer Ville Akseli Juurikkala with them to capture the special moments and the everday life during their „7th Symphony Tour“. The result will be released as a photo book. But Apocalyptica wants to involve the fans even more, therefore they are cooperating with Pledge Music. Founded in 2008 by musician Benji Rogers, Pledge Music offers artists a structure to make projects possible solely by the direct support of their fans, and at the same time helps raising money for charities. Via so-called “pledges”, the fans ‘promise’ to contribute to a certain project in exchange for an issue of the product as soon as it is finished. To quote the band: “You as our fans have always been supportive and now we want to share the process of making this book with you. With every single “pledge”, you not only support the book’s release, but also help raising money for a good cause. In addition, you’ll receive an eBook with images, that didn’t make it to the printed version, and secure the chance of getting special merchandise, signed memorabilia and exclusive bonus material. And we dug deep to find interesting stuff for you ... Thanks a lot for your support, we hope you’ll like the book as much as we do!” To check out what goodies Apocalyptica found and how the book process goes, please go to: http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/apocalyptica

Apocalyptica just completed their Finnish tour and here are some words from the band:

"Thank you Finland! We had really fantastic memorable shows here in our own yard."

For those that couldn't attend the shows, here is an insight to Mikko's work behind the drums:

CORRECTION Berlin, January 10th 2011 – concerning article on www.anwalt24.de from December 31st 2010. Quoted from the original German: “Apocalyptica” pays 45,000 EUR compensation to “Rammstein” due to trademark and naming rights violation after a settlement at the German regional court in Berlin. For their 2007 album “Worlds Collide”, the Finnish cello group “Apocalyptica” recorded tracks with various guest musicians, amongst them Till Lindemann, singer of the band “Rammstein”. Subsequently, the album was advertised with the endorsement “featuring Rammstein”. This occurred nationwide with advertisements in magazines, “City-Light” posters, as well as stickers on sound carriers. An approval of the band “Rammstein“ had not been given. As a result, the music group filed a lawsuit at the German regional court Berlin claiming compensation due to violation of trademark and naming rights of the label “Rammstein”, asserting that a co-operation in the album was implied by usage of the endorsement “featuring Rammstein”. There was disagreement about the exact amount of compensation. This was resolved by suggestion of the court through settlement on October 21st 2010. The parties agreed on payment of 45,000 EUR as an appropriate licensing fee. The file reference of the proceedings is: 16 O 570/08. http://www.anwalt24.de/beitraege-news/fachartikel/eur-45-000-schadensersatz-fuer-unerlaubte-werbung-mit-zusatz-a-featuring-rammstein FACTS The article’s headline is substantially wrong: neither the band Apocalyptica nor their management are or were involved in the described lawsuit. However, the parties involved are the band Rammstein and Sony Music Entertainment GmbH, as the successor of the by now defunct affiliated label “Gun Records”. Apocalyptica and Halbe Miete Management regret the events, but neither had any influence on a violation of trademark and naming rights, nor any part in whatsoever resulting agreements. It is correct, that “Gun Records“ published advertisements with the stated endorsement disregarding existing agreements, and the band Rammstein subsequently filed a lawsuit against Sony Music Entertainment GmbH as the parent company. It is furthermore correct, that Sony Music Entertainment GmbH and Rammstein have agreed on a settlement. The details of which, however, are unknown to Apocalyptica and Halbe Miete Management. We ask that further articles on the topic correctly reproduce the facts.
