Unauthorized usage of Apocalyptica songs “En Vie” and “Deathzone”
30 MAR, 2011, 4:00 pm
With shock, we have taken notice of the fact that our song “En Vie” has been used by US soldiers in their mission of war in Afghanistan for an appalling, violence-glorifying and inhuman video clip. This usage was neither requested, nor authorized. Certainly, we would not have granted such usage of our music under any circumstance.
We are working to establish an immediate ban of the video and will take legal action against the violation of intellectual property rights.

It is horribly sad that the beauty of the music you guys create was used to depict horror! I am sorry that was done to such beauty, and that someone from my country did it without your knowledge! :
I would feel the same way if my art, meant to be a thing of beauty, was used without my consent to depict such awful scenes. Your fans here in America love you, and support you in all you do...unfortunately, this is another situation that makes Americans look bad, and it is a shame because not everyone here is like they are depicted. It makes me sick to my stomach as a human being!
@ Lija and Bittersweet_spell~ I wholeheartedly agree!

This video was horrid! I do not think that Apocalyptica would approve of such use of their song. The truly sick part is to hear the soldiers laughing as they kill another human being! In the infamous words of the Subhumans "Join the Army, Learn to Kill". I do understand that there are horrid problems in other countries, and how lucky I am to NOT live in a country like that! The truly sad part is that I can see from a psychological stand point where their actions are "understandable" and they do need to make sure they survive as well. I know if I had to see or do any of that I would truly go insane. It in no way excuses what they did. I hope that one day we as a world get to the point where the "need" for power, control and money, no longer rule our thoughts and actions. I truly feel sorry for the ones that made this video, because they are so far out of touch with reality, it's no wonder why soldiers come back with PTSD, go crazy if they hear fireworks, car back firing, or drink too much and kill people. So until we realize why this is happening and start treating people as actual human beings, we will just continue to see such acts. Please take this atrocity as a lesson of what NOT to become.
Blessed Be

Has it ever occured to some of you that certain people might not support war and violence in general? It has absolutely nothing to do with nationality of the soldiers! I am sure Apocalyptica would react no differently if their music were used by individuals of any other nation in this way! We all have our convictions and we are all entitled to have them. Don't come here pretending to be politically correct, because you aren't! Here's being politically correct: Apocalyptica's intellectual property was stolen and used in a way they'd never approve of. I hope they sue the crap out of those responsible because they have every right to do it! How would you feel if it were photos of your smiling kids plastered in the background??? Probably not in the mood to watch your words! I am an American and my respect for Apocalyptica has only grown after reading this statement.
Re: Unauthorized usage of Apocalyptica songs “En Vie” and “Deathzone”
This is really sad and disgusting. I had read about what these 'soldiers' had done in an article I think last week and was disgusted. I had not seen the video so was not aware that Apocalyptica's music was in the background. Such beautiful music being in the background for such horrific acts is even more disgusting. For my fellow Americans (or anyone) who read this post and was offended by the wording. I honestly think that maybe you're reading into it the way you want to. When I read it I did not think there was any kind of judgement on US or US troops in general, but on those that made the video. What these 'soldiers' did was disgusting and I am sure no musical artist (American or not) would want their music associated with these serial killers ( because that is what they are, they are serial killers trying to use war to hide what they do). I hope Apocalyptica sues the hell out them and I hope they get life without parole for what they did.
s*** like this makes me embarssed to be American. American's already get a bad name and s*** like this just makes our image worse.
Re: Unauthorized usage of Apocalyptica songs “En Vie” and “Deathzone”
I am not trying to offend or anger anyone. But, just as a general observation, it is too easy to read too far into written statements when emotions are hot. On the one side you have this beautiful song used as a sound track to unsanctioned actions against innocent civilians. Imagine the impact this will have on Apocalyptica's image, especially to those who do not know who Apocalyptica is or what they are about? Apocalyptica may have a whole new demographic of fans that they do not want because of the violence glorified by this video of which their song as become an unauthorized soundtrack to.
Conversely, while it is could be thought the US military's "mission of war" is a derogatory statement, let us keep in mind of who the author or authors are. It is very possible that this website is translated as the band is Finnish as we all know, and anyone watching subtitled movies knows that there are some things that can be lost or misunderstood during translation. Also it could just be an unfortunate choice of words due to the outrage I am sure the band feels at having their work turned into something as perverse as that video.
As a fan of Apocalypitca and one who has served in the US Military I would caution us all to be careful to not let our emotions get the better of us, as hard as it is during a situation such as this. To condemn a whole group due to the unsanctioned actions of a few individuals or splitting hairs over a choice of words is how wars begin. Just my thoughts.
Re: Unauthorized usage of Apocalyptica songs “En Vie” and “Deathzone”
Just so you all know, the video shows the two men planting IEDs before they are killed. I understand Apocalyptica's stance, but we shouldn't be calling those killed in the video "innocent civilians" if they aren't. En Vie is one of my favorite songs. Cheers.
Re: Unauthorized usage of Apocalyptica songs “En Vie” and “Deathzone”
I am shocked to read that your music has once again been used with autorisation on videos that are all about violence. I am against war, violence and international hate, therefore I understand you want to take action against them. If there is anything we can do, as fans, to help, I'd be happy to give you a hand.
Northern wind, take my song up high...
Re: Unauthorized usage of Apocalyptica songs “En Vie” and “Deathzone”
I am in shock of this travesty. I can not believe that someone would think they could do such a thing. I truely hope you accept this apology on be half of all of your fans here in the US . I whole heartedly support you in this violation retaliation. Good luck with all you do .
Live life like there's no tomorrow. Never forget to say I love you, the chance my not come your way again!!!!!!
Re: Unauthorized usage of Apocalyptica songs “En Vie” and “Deathzone”
It saddens and sickens me and I'm sure many of us that something beautiful you created and shared with so many can be associated with something this horrific. You guys worked so hard for so long and it hurts to see that this was done to you.
Re: Unauthorized usage of Apocalyptica songs “En Vie” and “Deathzone”
@Blackballerina: Katariina is not lying, those soldiers have putted the song "En Vie" on a video where you see innocent people killed, we're not speaking about the official video here.
@Colleen: I must say that I've been unfortunate to watch those vids, I can't stand the moment when they play like puppets with this poor boy. Imagine what was in their heads when they wrote this. I know mine is completely in mourning. Eveybody can be confused after that.
Re: Unauthorized usage of Apocalyptica songs “En Vie” and “Deathzone”
@Vordaï: You're right, I did automatically assume that the statement by the band was an intentional shot at the US military, which may not be the case (after all, they did just leave the US after a kick ass tour!). I just wanted to put it out there that, no, killing innocent civilians is not the objective of the war in Afghanistan, and say that that part of their official statement is ambiguous and leaves room for questioning.
Re: Unauthorized usage of Apocalyptica songs “En Vie” and “Deathzone”
@Colleen: I think you misunderstood this statement, I'm sure that no judgement on US troops in general are meant. If you think so, it maybe because of the shock of seeing that atrocious video, from the author, or you, I'm not sure, cause I must say I'm myself in a state of shock.
Re: Unauthorized usage of Apocalyptica songs “En Vie” and “Deathzone”
I think it's important to note that the soldiers who created these videos are going to jail for murder and that what they were doing is in no way a part of the US "mission of war." Making a generalized statement about rogue soldiers' atrocities being the same as a legitimate mission is just as dishonest as somebody stealing music.
Re: Unauthorized usage of Apocalyptica songs “En Vie” and “Deathzone”
It's one of the most horrifying videos ever seen. I knew there was no way Apocalyptica would EVER sanction the use of ANY of their material for something like this.
